How/Where applications will be hosted

Postby Bastiaan » Wed Aug 24, 2011 4:14 pm

Hi
For small business, the cost of hosting an application is important.

Also is important that changing from one host to another one should be an easy task, if eventually necessary.

For instance, hosting an asp,net applicattion is easy and cheap, almost every hosting company can do it, no need to rent a VPN machine, no special configuration.

How will be the hosting environment for comicino applications.

How easy or difficult will be deploying comicino applications.

thank in advance

Please keep in mind that Comicino Studio is basically a cross platform development tool for web, desktop and smartphone applications. This web applications run as an ISAPI in Microsoft IIS or as a Standalone Server. You can do really cool cross platform stuff with this project type.

Now we have added a new project type for “database driven Websites”. Currently we only support ASP .NET websites for Desktop Internet Browers and Smartphone devices from one project. In the future we consider supporting also other Cloud Computing build targets.

You can do the programming with “Comicino Basic” which is in large parts compatible to Microsoft Visual Basic. Comicino Studio creates from your Comicino Studio project an ASP. NET website. Your “Comicino Basic” language is translated to C#.

In the future we also consider to support client side scripting (that runs in the Internet Browser) which is still based on “Comicino Basic”. This means that you can do all your programming stuff with “Comicino Basic” but the compiler creates JavaScript output.

We consider also supporting Microsoft Visual Studio. So in the future it might be possible to translate a Comicino Studio ASP .NET website project to Microsoft Visual Studio for further processing.

We have added our own ASP .NET webserver which should make it easier to test and debug an ASP.NET website while you are working in Comicino Studio. We think that the proper configuration of Microsoft IIS for an ASP .NET website is not an easy task for a novice user.

The ASP .NET output of Comicino Studio is very straight and should also run on Mono. So an average hosting company should be fine.

Finally we like to point out that Comicino Studio is still under development and we might change functionality without further notice.

I am not sure if I understand you correctly.

If you want to add a DLL file to your Comicino Studio project then this is possible for Windows based built targets.

If you ask if Comicino Studio compiles your code to a DLL then this again depends on the kind of Winsdows built target.

I guess you are asking if an ASP .NET webapplication is compiled into a DLL. The answere is no.
Comicino Studio itself can precompile a project but does not offer the same compiling as Microsoft Visual Studio.
Therfore we offer an option to export your project into a Microsoft Visual Studio project.
In Visual Studio you can further process you application.
